Beating COVID-19 in Travel & Transportation

Updated: Mar 12, 2020

Gem Limousine Worldwide has been closely monitoring the new strain of novel coronavirus, now identified under the name of Covid-19, that first emerged in Wuhan, China in late December 2019.

We are committed to taking all the necessary steps to help keep our passengers, employees and partners safe from unnecessary exposure to the Corona Virus and alike contagious viruses.  In doing so, we have actively trained all employees on proper procedures to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses.

All Gem's employees are expected to understand and follow the guidelines provided during our ongoing training initiatives.  Training for all Gem employees include, but is not limited to, the following procedures to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick or displaying signs of a fever or cough.

  • Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth at all times.

  • Cover coughs without using their hands or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces as thouroughly frequently as possible

  • Complying to Gem's vehicle sanitization process for chauffeurs and fleet maintenance personnel to use company supplied Clorox or Bleach based disinfectant products that meet EPA standards for use against this emerging viral pathogen.

  • Chauffeurs have been trained and directed to use these products to clean vehicles, doors and exposed areas in our vehicles at the end of each and every trip.

  • Routinely wash hands.  Use soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.

  • Where soap and water are not always readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

  • Refrain from shaking hands with passengers, customers, and co-workers.

  • Understand Covid-19 symptoms and immediately report and seek medical attention if symptoms are present.

  • Remain at home until symptom-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing or symptom altering medications such as cough suppressants etc. pursuant to our updated company training guidelines.

  • Remove all printed materials from seat-backs and refrain from providing ammenidities such as but not limited to bottled water & mints.

Gem Limousine Worldwide will continue to train employees and update operational protocols as necessary, throughout this evolving situation.

We are also requiring that until further notice, all Gem employees follow the below protocols:

Pursuant to the CDC recommendation, employees who appear to have acute respiratory illness symptoms (i.e. cough, shortness of breath) upon arrival to work or become sick during the day, will be separated from other employees and sent home immediately. As with the common cold of the flu, anytime an employee is feeling sick they are directed to stay home from work until symptom-free. Standard company time and attendance policies should be observed. The company has adopted the CDC’s guidelines for “symptom-free” including the following standards:

  • Free of fever (100.4 F or greater using an oral thermometer)

  • Free of signs of a fever and/or chills and any other symptoms for at least 24 Houurs without the use of fever-reducing or other symptom-altering medications (e.g. cough suppressants)

  • If determined appropriate, at the discretion of the company, we may require its employee(s) to work from home.

  • Any employee who has returned from any country or place where a U.S. state or government agency has implemented a required or recommended quarantine or self-evaluation monitoring protocol is expected by the company to follow such protocol.  This includes instances where the CDC has indicated the employee should stay home to monitor their own health regardless of travel or contact history.

In addition to our internal actions, we are asking that all of our customers inform us if any of your employees have been diagnosed with the coronavirus, so we may take all necessary steps with any Gem Limousine Worldwide employee who may have come in contact with them.

We appreciate your attention to our training & precautionary measures and are dedicated to continue to provide you with the service you have been accustomed to.
